Cut The Rope: The ZeptoLab Classic, Official Build, Play-Tested to a Cleared Level
The Short Version
Some games need an introduction; Cut The Rope needs a reunion. ZeptoLab's 2010 physics puzzle โ cut ropes, swing candy, feed the little green monster called Om Nom โ went on to a billion-plus downloads, and the build embedded on this page is the official HTML5 version: the main menu carries the zeptolab logo and distributor Famobi's side by side, on screen in our evidence shots. We played it, misjudged our first cut like it was 2010 again, then cleared Level 1-1, fed Om Nom, and unlocked the first collectible drawing. It's exactly the game you remember, no download, no account.
What We Verified Hands-On
The official pedigree, on screen. Menu: the candy-on-a-rope logo treatment, Play, a level book, settings โ and both zeptolab and Famobi marks at the bottom. This is the licensed original, not one of the countless name-riding clones (our catalog's compliance rules exist precisely for that distinction).
Level 1-1, the perfect tutorial. One candy on one rope, a dotted guide line, a tutorial hand demonstrating the swipe, three stars hanging in the fall line, and Om Nom waiting at the bottom with the patience of a creature who knows you'll figure it out. "Slide your finger to cut the rope" โ or on desktop, drag the mouse across it.
Physics that punished our first guess. Our first swipe crossed below the candy โ nothing cut, and our poking left the candy tugging the rope taut. The rope is a real simulated object with a real position, not a button; you cut the strand, not the general area. On the corrected swipe the rope snapped, the candy dropped clean through all three stars, and Om Nom did what Om Nom does.
Level cleared, collectible unlocked โ on camera. Completing the level surfaced one of the franchise's signature touches: a "Drawing found!" unlock with a live-action photo of an Om Nom box ("Feed with Candy") and a Collect button โ the story-collectible meta that made the original feel like more than a puzzle app. Our evidence set includes the moment.
Quality-of-life notes. The build resumes straight into your current level from the menu's Play button, undo/restart controls sit top-left, and sound/music toggles top-right. We hit no mid-level ads in any session.
The Honest Caveat
We cleared the opening level and verified the core loop; we did not push into the later boxes where the series introduces bubbles, air cushions, spiders, and the mechanics that turn "cut one rope" into genuine puzzles. The level-book UI and the deeper star-chase economy are described from the franchise's well-documented design rather than our own long climb. And expect a skippable ad attempt at the splash screen before the menu in normal browsing โ press play again if it bounces you back; once you're in, you're in.
Who It's For
Everyone who had a phone in the 2010s, and everyone who didn't. It remains one of the best-designed touch puzzles ever made โ each level a single readable contraption, each cut a small commitment โ and the browser build means the nostalgia tax is zero. For kids meeting Om Nom for the first time, this is the right first entry; the full family tree lives in our Cut the Rope & Om Nom series guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the official Cut The Rope?
Yes โ this is ZeptoLab's game in Famobi's official HTML5 distribution; both companies' logos appear on the in-game menu. It's not a clone or a fan remake.
Is Cut The Rope free to play in the browser?
Yes โ free, no download, no account. It's ad-supported: expect a skippable ad around the splash screen, and none mid-level in our sessions.
How do I cut the rope?
Drag your mouse (or slide your finger, on touch screens) across the rope itself โ the strand, not the candy. Our first attempt swiped under the candy and cut nothing; aim for the rope's visible line.
What are the stars for?
Each level hangs up to three stars along the candy's possible paths; collecting them is the real puzzle. The tutorial level lines all three up in a single drop โ later levels make you earn the geometry.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes โ it's mobile-first by heritage and runs in any modern mobile browser. Touch sliding is the native control; desktop mouse dragging works identically.
Our Verdict
Fifteen years on, the design still teaches itself in one screen and still makes a single cut feel like a decision. The official build lands on the browser with its physics, its charm, and even its collectible drawings intact. We came to verify a licensing logo and left having fed a green monster with genuine satisfaction. The classic is the classic. Recommended without an asterisk.
Play Cut The Rope
The game is embedded at the top of this page โ press play (twice if the ad bounce returns you to the splash), then cut where the rope actually is. Om Nom is counting on you.
The whole official family โ sequels and Om Nom spin-offs โ lives in our series guide; more tidy-brain physics is in the puzzle category.
