These tips are based on our hands-on playtest across Levels 1 through 3, covering the swordsman and archer unit types on green, snow, and desert terrain.
1. Fill the front row of the grid before spreading units backward. The grid is 7 tiles wide and several rows deep. Enemies approach from the far side of the battlefield, so stickmen placed in the back rows arrive at the fight later. Placing all your units in the front 2 rows means they engage simultaneously, overwhelming enemies with numbers rather than trickling in one by one. We cleared Level 1 with 4 swordsmen clustered in the center-front tiles.
2. Mix archers behind swordsmen once you unlock the 68-coin archer at Level 2. Archers carry crossbows and deal damage at range. Placing them on tiles behind your front-line swordsmen creates a formation where melee fighters absorb hits while ranged units deal damage from safety. In our Level 3 battle on the desert terrain, the 3 archers we placed behind 2 swordsmen eliminated red enemies before they could close the distance.
3. Spend most of your coins each round โ hoarding does not carry strategic advantage. Winning refunds your cost and adds bonus coins, so unspent coins sitting in the counter during a battle are wasted potential. On Level 1 with 243 coins, deploying 6 swordsmen at 35 each (210 total) instead of 4 (140 total) gives you a 50% larger army at no long-term cost since victory replenishes everything.
4. Watch the coin counter after each win to plan your next army composition. Our balance went 243 (start) to 243 (after Level 1 win) to 286 (after Level 2) to 329 (after Level 3). The bonus grows each level, meaning you can afford progressively larger and more expensive armies. By Level 3, we could field 4 archers (272 coins) plus 1 swordsman (35 coins) for 307 total โ a ranged-heavy formation that cleared the desert stage with ease.
