Robot Bar — A Sci-Fi Spot-the-Differences Puzzle That Wears Its Lighting Like a Threat

Published February 3, 2022 · Reviewed by BooBoo Editorial on May 12, 2026

Introduction

Robot Bar - Find the Differences is a free HTML5 spot-the-difference puzzle from Italian solo developer Pierpaolo Tausani (publishing as PitiGameDev). Released in February 2022, it drops you into a dimly lit, neon-tinged sci-fi cantina and asks you to find ten hidden differences between two near-identical bar scenes before a 2:30 countdown burns out. The twist — and the source of most of its 8.4/10 GamePix score (across 801 votes, 89.1% positive) — is the artwork: this is not a cartoon spot-the-difference for children. It's a moody, Blade-Runner-tinted club where every robot patron, every glass on every shelf, and every neon sign could be the one that's slightly off.

The game ships as a 5-level run with a hard limit on mistakes: three wrong taps on the GamePix-hosted version we tested (some platforms list five). Run out of lives or run out of time and the game shows "GAME OVER" without ceremony.

Hands-On: What It's Actually Like to Play

The following describes our editorial team's firsthand playtest on May 12, 2026, conducted via the official GamePix embed.

After the iubenda cookie banner and the "好,开始游戏!" GamePix consent button, the game opens directly to a title card: neon-green sign reading "ROBOT BAR — SPOT THE DIFFERENCES" above a "TOUCH TO START" prompt and a small mute toggle. Click anywhere and the first level loads.

The screen splits cleanly into two panels. Each panel shows a near-identical render of a futuristic tavern — wooden bartop, a row of mechanical patrons at long tables, hanging lamps that bloom green and orange under the cantina haze. A neon sign in the back reads "LE ROBOBAR". The HUD bar across the top is terse: "DIFFERENCES: 10 LIVES: 3 TIME 02:13". A small "HINT" button sits in the top-right with a five-bar charge indicator. Underneath each thumbnail of the two images, a counter shows "00/10" so you know how many differences you've caught on each side.

Then you start looking. And the artwork actively works against you. Because the rendering is high-detail 3D with neon lighting bouncing off chrome, you cannot use the usual spot-the-difference shortcut of scanning for symmetry breaks against a flat backdrop. Differences are often two-pixel changes in the way light pools on a metal cup, or a bottle on a shelf that's slightly taller in one image, or the angle of a patron's head tilted by maybe ten degrees. We were squinting within seconds.

The game punishes wrong clicks instantly. Each missed tap costs a life with no animation delay — the lives counter just decrements and you keep going. Three mistakes and you're at "GAME OVER". Our first run lasted about a minute. The HINT charges help (tap once to flash a difference on screen) but they're finite and you only get the starting bank — there are no rewarded-ad refills on the GamePix build.

How to Play / Controls

  • Tap / left-click anywhere on either image where you think a difference is
  • Correct tap: the difference is circled and added to your "00/10" counter for that panel
  • Wrong tap: instant life decrement, no warning, no penalty animation
  • HINT button: uses one charge from the five-bar bank, briefly highlights one remaining difference
  • No keyboard inputs — strictly touch-or-click
  • No drag, no zoom — the game expects you to inspect what's already in frame

The original is 800×600 landscape; the GamePix wrapper scales cleanly inside any modern browser. We tested via the HeadlessChrome 148 player at 1280×720 and pixel detail rendered crisp.

Strategy Tips

Three things that actually moved the needle:

  1. Sweep top-to-bottom, never tap blind. The 3-life cap is unforgiving and the natural visual chaos of the sci-fi tavern wants you to misclick. Use the first 20 seconds to scan both panels methodically before tapping anything; the timer is generous if you don't waste clicks.
  2. Hold HINT charges for level 4 and 5. Early levels typically have higher-contrast differences (a sign that's lit vs unlit, a glass that's full vs empty). The later levels collapse into subtle 3D-render variations where eyeballing alone fails — that's where you want hint flashes.
  3. Watch the floor, not the patrons. Wrong-click traps tend to cluster around the most visually busy elements (robots, neon signage). Differences themselves are often hidden in the static scenery — chairs, glasses, bottles on shelves, edge tiles. Tap there first.

How It Compares

Compared with the sister title Robot Band - Find the Differences (also by PitiGameDev), Robot Bar has tighter spaces and harder eye-candy clutter, which makes it the harder of the two for first-time players. Compared with kid-skewing puzzle apps like Mr. Bean Hidden Stars, Robot Bar is for adults — both in art direction and in its willingness to end your run inside 60 seconds.

Player Ratings: What Other Players Say

The cross-platform numbers are positive but lean on small samples, which is honest to flag:

Two data quirks worth calling out. First, GamePix reports 801 votes but only 319 logged plays — likely a discrepancy in how the platform tracks aggregate vs recent metrics, but worth noting. Second, the spread from 57% to 95% across platforms is wide and most of the lower-rated samples are tiny (≤7 ratings), so we lean on GamePix's larger 801-vote pool as the most representative signal.

CrazyGames, Y8, and Lagged all carry the game but do not publicly display rating numbers. Reddit and YouTube returned zero matching coverage — this is a genuinely obscure indie title.

Who Made It

Pierpaolo Tausani publishes as PitiGameDev from Rome, Italy. He's a one-person studio with 61+ HTML5 games distributed across GamePix, PacoGames (where his portfolio has 985,000 lifetime plays), Games44, itch.io and several other portals. His catalog skews toward observation puzzles, casual platformers, and short arcade titles — notable companions include Robot Band - Find the Differences, Awareness Game - The Robot Bar (a memory-test variant set in the same bar), Boing Bang Adventure, Jetpack Kiwi, and Towerland.

His developer presence is on itch.io, Twitter/X, and a YouTube channel showing playthroughs. The game was originally distributed via GameDistribution (still visible in network requests as ID d4126e79854f498790598a7e7334ef73) before being mirrored across the portal ecosystem. A Google Play mobile version (com.pitigamedev.robotbarspotthedifferences) used to exist but currently returns 404 — likely delisted.

FAQ

How many levels does Robot Bar - Find the Differences have? Five levels, each with ten differences to find inside a roughly 2:30 timer. A full clean run takes 10–15 minutes; our first attempt at Robot Bar ended in about a minute because we burned through all three lives early.

Can I play Robot Bar on mobile? The HTML5 build runs in any modern mobile browser via GamePix's embed wrapper. There used to be a native Android version (com.pitigamedev.robotbarspotthedifferences) on Google Play, but the listing currently returns 404 — likely delisted. The browser version remains the canonical way to play.

How many lives do I actually get — three or five? The GamePix build we tested gave 3 wrong clicks = game over. Some platform descriptions (Lagged, 4j.com) say 3; others (PacoGames marketing) reference 5. The penalty is platform-dependent — what you see is what you get on each portal.

Is Robot Bar free? Yes. The Robot Bar - Find the Differences GamePix build is fully free. There are no in-game purchases, no premium currency, and we observed no rewarded-video ads or interstitials during gameplay (only the standard GamePix consent screen on first load).

Is this the same game as "Robot Band - Find the Differences"? No, they're two distinct titles by the same developer. Robot Bar is set in a futuristic tavern; Robot Band features musical robots playing instruments. Mechanics are identical (find 10 differences across 5 levels) but the artwork and setting are completely separate.

Our Verdict

Robot Bar - Find the Differences is what you want when you need a 5-minute observation puzzle that respects your time. The artwork is genuinely good for an indie HTML5 title — a small-studio Italian dev rendering a sci-fi tavern in Construct 3, complete with neon-stained metal and busy patron poses. The mechanic is the genre's purest form: ten differences, no shortcuts, instant penalty for guessing.

The downside, however, is real and worth flagging: the game is unforgiving in a way casual players will find off-putting. Three lives is harsh, and the artwork's natural visual chaos means even a careful run can dead-end early. The Hint system softens this but exhausts quickly. The cross-platform rating spread (57% to 95% on small samples) signals that audiences are sharply divided — observation-puzzle veterans rate it highly, casual portal-players bounce off the difficulty.

This is not for players looking for relaxed, untimed puzzle browsing — there are gentler entries in the genre. But for anyone who genuinely enjoys the 60-second eye-strain rush of spotting subtle 3D-render differences in moody artwork, Robot Bar earns its 8.4/10 honestly.
